Evergreen is negotiating to sell and sublease large container ships
Taiwan’s Evergreen shipping line is currently in talks with an unnamed third party to sell and sublease two of the ten 24,000-TEU large container ships on the order.
This agreement will be made through Evergreen’s subsidiary Greencompass Marine. No other details have been disclosed, with Evergreen Shipping saying only that it will give further notice once the deal is signed. Shoei Kisen of Japan is seen as the most likely party that Evergreen is negotiating with.
Evergreen ordered a total of 10 large container ships at China’s Jiangnan Shipyard and Hudong Zhonghua, and South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.
VesselsValue data shows that ships built by Samsung Heavy have 23,764 TEUs each, while those built at Chinese factories are 23,000 TEUs.
The ships are expected to be delivered by 2022.
