KEY EXPORT CATEGORIES IN JANUARY SURPASS THE BILLION-DOLLAR MARK

According to preliminary data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s total export turnover in January 2025 reached $33.19 billion, marking a 6.6% decline from the previous month and a 4% decrease year-over-year. However, a notable highlight in the country’s export performance is that seven key export categories still surpassed the billion-dollar revenue mark, making significant contributions to the nation’s total export turnover.

 

1. Computers, Electronic Products, and Components – $6.05 Billion

This category led the export market with $6.05 billion, despite a 17.4% decline from the previous month. However, it still recorded a 13.3% year-over-year increase. Key export markets include:

  • United States: $2.19 billion (+22.8%)
  • China: $893 million (+4.7%)
  • EU, Hong Kong, and South Korea

2. Mobile Phones and Components – $4.83 Billion

While mobile phone exports grew by 32.3% compared to the previous month, they declined by 13.2% year-over-year. The largest market was:

  • United States: $1.12 billion (-19%)
  • Followed by the EU, China, and South Korea

 

3. Machinery, Equipment, Tools, and Spare Parts – $3.86 Billion

This category experienced a 12% drop from the previous month and a 4% decrease year-over-year. Key export destinations include:

  • United States: $1.64 billion (+4.9%)
  • EU, ASEAN, and Hong Kong

 

4. Textiles and Garments – $3.19 Billion

Despite a 5.4% decline from the previous month, this sector saw a 1.8% year-over-year increase. The top export markets were:

  • United States: $1.4 billion (+6%)
  • Followed by Japan, EU, and South Korea

 

5. Footwear – $1.9 Billion

Footwear exports fell 9.9% from the previous month and 3.7% year-over-year. The main export markets were:

  • United States: $707 million (+2.9%)
  • Followed by EU and China

 

6. Wood and Wood Products – $1.42 Billion

Wood exports declined 9.7% from the previous month and 3.7% compared to the same period last year. The largest market was:

  • United States: $780 million (-4.8%)
  • Followed by Japan and China

 

7. Vehicles and Spare Parts – $1.19 Billion

This category fell 8% from the previous month and 10.2% year-over-year. The top export markets were:

  • Japan: $256 million (-16.4%)
  • Followed by United States, EU, ASEAN, and South Korea

 

Conclusion

The total export turnover of these seven key product categories reached $22.45 billion, accounting for 72% of Vietnam’s total exports in January 2025. These categories continue to reinforce Vietnam’s crucial role in the global supply chain, maintaining the country’s strong presence in international trade.
